A Veteran-Owned Optical That Understands the System

William Chancellor served as a U.S. Army Health Care Specialist and Flight Medic during Operation Iraqi Freedom, then spent eight years in emergency medicine before becoming a licensed optician. Best Chance Optical is his practice, and veterans and military families from Robins Air Force Base and across Middle Georgia are always welcome here.

Veterans enrolled in VA health care are entitled to routine eye exams through the VA, and the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin offers optometry. VA eyeglasses, though, are limited to veterans who meet specific criteria such as a service-connected disability rating or Purple Heart. Many veterans end up paying for glasses out of pocket, and that is where a $45 exam and honest eyewear pricing matter.

If you have a prescription from the VA or any other eye doctor, bring it in. We fill outside prescriptions, duplicate lenses from your current glasses, and measure your PD for free if you want to order online.

Veterans FAQ

Does the VA pay for eye exams and glasses?

Routine eye exams are covered for veterans enrolled in VA health care. VA-provided eyeglasses are limited to veterans who meet criteria such as a compensable service-connected disability, former prisoner of war status, a Purple Heart, or certain medical conditions. Check with your VA care team about your eligibility.

Can I use VA Community Care at Best Chance Optical?

Community Care requires a referral from the VA, and eligibility depends on drive time and wait time at VA facilities. Ask your VA care team whether you qualify and which providers are approved. Regardless of referral status, we fill VA prescriptions and welcome self-pay veterans.

Do you offer a military discount?

Ask us when you book. Our exam pricing is already among the lowest in Middle Georgia, and we work to keep eyewear affordable for every veteran and military family.

Is the owner really a veteran?

Yes. William Chancellor is a U.S. Army veteran and former Flight Medic who served during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
